The Cabbiavoli History

Cabbiavoli is a timeless Tuscan estate, where history, nature, and family traditions come together.
Dating back to 1210, when the Counts Alberti di Certaldo built Caput Aulae (its Latin name), the Castle of Cabbiavoli still stands proudly as a symbol of Chianti’s heritage. Over the centuries, it has preserved its character and beauty, now opening its doors to those who wish to live the true Tuscan experience.

Unlike many estates turned into hotels or resorts, Cabbiavoli remains a living home, lovingly cared for by the Puccioni family for generations. Staying here means not only enjoying the elegance of a castle and the charm of rustic farmhouses, but also experiencing the warmth of a place where daily life and traditions are still alive.

Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, sunflower fields and rolling hills, Cabbiavoli is both a retreat and a working farm. The estate produces fine wines, extra virgin olive oil, and grains, all with the same passion that has guided the family for over a century. Beneath the castle, a cellar carved into tuff rock still preserves the wines at a constant natural temperature, as it has for hundreds of years.

Here, every corner tells a story: the chapel, the stone arches, the terracotta floors, the olive trees bathed in golden light. Cabbiavoli is more than a place to stay – it is the rare opportunity to live in a Tuscan family estate, where history and hospitality meet to create unforgettable memories.

The Family History

The history of Cabbiavoli dates back to 1210, when the Counts Alberti di Certaldo, leaders of the Longobard family ruling the Elsa Valley, built a fortified “borgo.” Traces of this medieval stronghold remain visible today in the square brick tower and defensive walls beside the villa.

The Alberti family lived here until the 17th century, when the estate passed to the Brandini family, prominent bankers and landowners of Castelfiorentino. In 1900, Alice Brandini married entrepreneur Cesare Puccioni, grandfather of the present owner, bringing together two distinguished Tuscan lineages.

Today, Ginevra Puccioni has opened the estate to guests, sharing not only her family home but also the warmth of true Tuscan hospitality. With professional experience spanning hospitality, gemology, and luxury fashion, she adds a unique and personal touch to Cabbiavoli.

For many years, the castle remained a private hunting residence until 1999, when Cesare Puccioni, Ginevra’s father, began an extensive restoration of the villa and tower, blending modern comforts with authentic history.

Among the first guests after its restoration was actress Julia Roberts, who enjoyed her stay so much that she invited her favourite photographer to capture the relaxed beauty of her Tuscan holiday.
